Microsoft founder Bill Gates has warned that the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to serious cyber threats by 2027. He made the statement on CNN, FinFly reports.

"The area where we will see the most dramatic changes next year will be cyberattacks. There is already a business model based on extorting money through threats or creating disruptions capable of affecting the stock market," Gates said.

According to him, the combination of cutting-edge AI models, a lack of restrictions and the activity of malicious actors could lead to "many unpleasant surprises" in the cyber sphere.

At the same time, Gates believes that AI going out of control is not yet the most pressing threat to humanity. In his view, it will take several more years before AI development reaches a level that allows it to have such a large-scale impact on the world.
