Azerbaijan's Interior Ministry has warned citizens about an increase in scams on WhatsApp and social media aimed at extorting money.

According to the ministry, fraudsters use photos and data of real people, write to their relatives and friends, and ask them to urgently transfer money.

The ministry urges citizens not to trust suspicious messages, especially those asking for money transfers. Upon receiving such a message, it is necessary to contact the person and verify the information.

"The presence of a familiar photo and name does not guarantee that the account belongs to that person. Do not transfer money, do not share personal and banking data, do not click on suspicious links," the statement said.

In case of encountering cyber fraud, the ministry urges citizens to immediately contact the 102 service or the official social media accounts of the ministry.
