Unihertz has officially announced the flagship of its rugged phone sub-brand 8849, the Tank 5 Pro. The main difference from the regular Tank 5 is the inclusion of a built-in thermal camera, a feature not previously seen in 8849 smartphones. The company uses a FLIR Lepton 3.1R module with a resolution of 0.02 MP (160x120), a 95-degree field of view, and an accuracy of 50 mK. The thermal camera can operate in two temperature ranges: from -10 to +140 and from -10 to +400 degrees Celsius. Users can choose from nine color profiles, capture photos, videos, and time-lapses, and use a picture-in-picture function that combines thermal and main camera imagery.
The regular cameras on the Tank 5 Pro are also respectable: a primary 50 MP sensor based on a 1/1.3-inch Samsung GN1, a 50 MP telephoto lens using the OmniVision OV50D (1/2.88-inch), a 50 MP infrared night vision camera based on a similar sensor, and a 32 MP front camera. The hardware is equally impressive: a MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset paired with 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
The 6.73-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 3200x1440 pixels (higher than any mainstream flagship) is traditionally not the only means of image output. There is also a projector with a resolution of 2048x1080 pixels and laser autofocus (0.5-4 m), which also functions as a rangefinder, as well as a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 port that supports video output to an external monitor.
Other features include dual nano-SIM slots, eSIM support, a 1,200-lumen flashlight, a proprietary "notification simulator" (flashing light), IP69K water resistance, a 17,600 mAh battery (68 Wh) with support for 120 W charging, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a 1027 vibration motor. The 8849 Tank 5 Pro is priced at €1,057 (105,100 rubles), with sales starting in September.
