The main priority in Azerbaijan's agriculture is the adaptation of small farmers to climate change. This was stated by Stefanie Stallmeister, World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan, on the second day of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW 2026).
According to her, the World Bank has been a long-standing partner of Azerbaijan, including in the agricultural sector.
"The Bank views agriculture as a key part of Azerbaijan's economy. This sector brings together many important directions of Azerbaijan's socio-economic development strategy. It is an industry that makes a significant contribution to the non-oil economy, creating considerable employment opportunities and economic diversification," she said.
Stallmeister emphasized that the sector is vulnerable to climate change and degradation.
"The negative impacts of climate change on agriculture primarily harm small farms, which have more limited capacity to implement adaptation measures. On the other hand, there are adaptation solutions that are not too difficult to implement on both large and small scales. Our task is to bring these solutions to farmers. In Azerbaijan, small farmers dominate the agricultural economy," she added.
