The Washington administration intends to impose new sanctions on various entities for their ties to Iran every week in order to increase pressure on Tehran. This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an interview with Reuters.

"You will see many more of them each week," he said, referring to such US restrictions. "We are starting with banks, and we are telling them that it is unacceptable to hold Iranian money and help the regime," the minister clarified.

Bessent added that at the upcoming meeting of G20 finance ministers, scheduled for August 31 to September 1 in Asheville, North Carolina, he will warn representatives of other countries about the possibility of sanctions for ties with Iran.
