The Washington administration is close to reaching an agreement with Venezuelan authorities on the transfer of part of the republic's oil and gas resources to US ownership. APA reports citing TASS that this was announced by the Axios portal.
According to its sources among US officials, "the [Trump] administration is holding talks with Venezuela's interim government on acquiring ownership of a share of the vast oil resources of this South American country." "President Trump is close to securing America's energy future for generations, not only for the US but for the entire hemisphere," one source said. "Calling this deal huge would be an understatement," added a second source. "It is monumental," he added.
As noted in the publication, as a result of this deal, "US oil reserves will more than double." The article clarifies that the consultations concern "more than a dozen" oil fields in Venezuela, whose production could reach 90 million barrels per day. According to the portal, some of these fields previously belonged to Venezuelans who were charged, and some were allegedly controlled by China. The potential agreements provide for US companies to provide services to Venezuela.
According to Axios, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Venezuelan President's envoy Delcy Rodriguez play a key role in the negotiations.
