The UK and Azerbaijan have finalised the text of a strategic partnership document. This was announced by Lord Anas Sarwar, Minister for Trade at the UK Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, at the 8th meeting of the intergovernmental commission between Azerbaijan and the UK.
The minister recalled that last year Baku and London agreed to elevate their relations to a strategic partnership.
"I am delighted to report that we have agreed the text of this partnership, and I look forward to our Prime Minister [Andy Burnham] and your country's President [Ilham Aliyev] meeting to sign this agreement together," he said.
According to Sarwar, it is also a great honour for him to co-chair the 8th meeting of the UK-Azerbaijan Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
"This commission meeting is taking place at an important moment in relations between our two countries, perhaps one of the most significant turning points in our history. Last year, the UK and Azerbaijan agreed to elevate our relations to a strategic partnership. Since then, our governments have been working actively to fill this agreement and our partnership with real substance," the British minister noted.
