Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan Jaslan Madiyev visited the assembly and testing facility of CONTEC Space Group in Seoul. The news was reported by Kazinform, citing the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.
At a meeting with the company's board chairman, Lee Songhee, prospects for joint technological and investment projects were discussed. The parties reviewed CONTEC's plans to direct investments into the Galam project, opportunities for joint production of satellites and their components, and the development of a network of ground stations.
One promising area is the creation of a production hub in Kazakhstan for the manufacture of satellite components, with subsequent supplies to markets in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The localization of production of large-scale ground antenna systems is also under consideration.
Separate attention was given to the development of satellite imagery processing using artificial intelligence. According to Kazinform, the use of AI will expand the capabilities for analyzing Earth remote sensing data and applying it to practical tasks.
CONTEC Space Group unites CONTEC, Asia Pacific Satellite Corporation, and Texas Space Communication. The group supplies onboard computers for South Korean government satellites and operates 17 ground stations worldwide, including facilities in Chile, the United States, South Africa, and Australia.
A Kazakh subsidiary of CONTEC is expected to be established soon, with further elaboration of the partnership's parameters. Details of the cooperation are planned to be presented during the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan to South Korea. The implementation of the discussed initiatives is expected to expand the capabilities of Kazakh enterprises in the production of space technology, develop competencies in satellite data processing, and open access to new export markets.
