Online retail sales in Russia reached 7.2 trillion rubles in the first half of 2026, up 18.7% from the same period last year, according to the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT).

Purchases from Russian online stores and domestic platforms accounted for 96.6% of the total, or 6.9 trillion rubles, while cross-border purchases made up 3.4%, or 245.8 billion rubles.

E-commerce accounted for 22.2% of total retail sales in Russia, compared with 20.9% in the first half of 2025.

In the reporting period, regions accounted for nearly 80% of online retail volume, while Moscow and St. Petersburg contributed 21%.

"Regions remain the growth driver of online trade. We see that this channel is most in demand where traditional retail serves other purposes, primarily meeting everyday demand. E-commerce is an effective complement, giving residents of remote areas access to the full range of goods, including those available only in large cities," said AKIT President Artyom Sokolov, as quoted in the release.

AKIT was founded in 2012 and currently unites 80 internet companies, including Wildberries, Ozon, Yandex Market, Citilink, M.Video-Eldorado, Avito, Lamoda, Tsian, Aviasales, and Kuper.
