Azerbaijan's Ministry of Digital Development and Transport reported an increase in transit cargo volume in January-July 2026. The figure exceeded 9.1 million tons, setting a record for the past five years.
According to the statement, the growth is linked to the development of the international transport corridors East-West and North-South, as well as the implementation of major infrastructure projects. Transit cargo volumes on the East-West route increased by 16.5%, and on the North-South route by 14.3%.
The ministry emphasized that these results were achieved thanks to reforms in transport and logistics, digitalization, infrastructure modernization, expanded international cooperation, and changes in global trade routes.
"The growth of transit cargo contributes not only to the development of the transport sector but also to the expansion of added value and economic activity in the non-oil economy," the statement said.
"Strengthening transit potential also enhances Azerbaijan's role as a reliable partner in global supply chains, increases its attractiveness for foreign investment, and boosts the country's geo-economic significance. The development of Azerbaijan as a transit and logistics hub forms the basis for diversifying the non-oil economy, deepening regional economic integration, and ensuring long-term sustainable economic growth," the ministry added.
