Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have discussed prospects for developing transport and logistics cooperation, including the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijani territory.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Baku Alim Bayel.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed issues related to the construction of a joint intermodal terminal at the Port of Alyat, supplies of Kazakh locomotives and wagons to Azerbaijan, construction of vessels at the Baku Shipyard for Kazakhstan's needs, as well as further development of the joint Baku Grain Terminal at the Port of Govsan.
In addition, the sides discussed increasing the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan, as well as cooperation in trade, economic, and investment spheres.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of joint projects and strengthening economic and industrial cooperation using the joint investment fund established in 2024. The sides noted that the creation of joint production facilities would contribute to increasing trade turnover between the countries.
Bayel noted the high dynamics of bilateral relations and thanked the Azerbaijani side for supporting Kazakhstan's initiative to elevate the level of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
In turn, Sharifov stated that he would make all necessary efforts to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Since 2026, the co-chairs of the commission have been Kazakhstan's First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlybek Nalibayev and Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.
