On Saturday, August 15, a ban on cryptocurrency mining (including participation in mining pools) came into force in Moscow, the Moscow region, and certain territories of the Kursk region.

The restrictions are expected to remain in effect until December 31, 2032. The corresponding decree, which specified these dates, was previously published on the official portal of legal acts.

The Russian Ministry of Energy noted in an explanatory note to the draft decree that the absence of a year-round ban in these territories leads to risks of energy capacity shortages due to the connection of energy-intensive mining facilities to power grids.
