Steve Witkoff, the US president's special envoy, said after a meeting in Kyiv with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the US, Russia and Ukraine could soon announce talks in a trilateral format.
The American delegate noted that White House chief Donald Trump had instructed him and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to prepare a package of agreements to end the war.
"One thing that we [Steve Witkoff and I] really thought would be productive is to return to the trilateral format, which we managed to do about six months ago. And we have spoken to both sides, so hopefully we will have progress on that soon," Kushner said.
According to him, during the meeting the sides discussed what the elements of a lasting peace should be and what Ukraine and Russia could get from it.
Witkoff called the talks in Kyiv "important and substantive."
