Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may visit Syria in the near future. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan after talks in Damascus with the Foreign Minister and Minister for Syrians Abroad of the Syrian transitional government, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.

"A visit by our president to Syria is planned in the near future. He has long wanted to make such a visit. We are trying to create the necessary conditions for this," Fidan said.

According to him, during the current contacts in Damascus, he reviewed the work that a high-level group preparing the visit will have to carry out.

"From this point of view, my current visit is of great importance," the minister noted.

Fidan did not name a specific date for Erdogan's visit to Syria.

In mid-August, Erdogan announced his intention to visit Syria in the near future.
