China's Foreign Ministry has spoken out against US threats to cut countries off the American financial system for conducting, in Washington's view, unacceptable trade operations with Iran, The Global Times reported on Tuesday. Beijing intends to take necessary measures to safeguard its rights and interests.
"China has repeatedly stated that it opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that contravene international law and are not coordinated with the UN Security Council," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing.
According to him, China insists on dialogue between conflicting parties, as "economic war and maximum pressure tactics do not help solve problems" and only worsen the situation, in particular, "undermining the rights of other countries."
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Beijing will take necessary measures to defend its legitimate rights and interests.
