Canada will host a summit with the European Union in Montreal on October 29–30, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office announced on October 25.

European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are expected to attend. The partnership aims to connect Canadian energy and mineral resources with Europe’s market and manufacturing capacity.

Artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and space are also identified as areas of cooperation. These are priorities for an upcoming summit; concrete agreements will need to be assessed after the meeting.
