A principle concerning the use of artificial intelligence (AI) has been added to Azerbaijan's Code of Ethical Conduct for Journalists. The announcement was made by Press Council member Mushfig Alasgarli on Friday at the IX Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists in Baku.

According to him, under the proposal, media outlets must adopt internal documents regulating the use of artificial intelligence systems.

"Under the new principles, the use of artificial intelligence systems must not replace a journalist's initiative and judgment, editorial independence or human oversight. Before publishing materials prepared with the help of artificial intelligence, a journalist is obliged to verify their content, factual accuracy and sources. The journalist and the editorial team bear personal responsibility for published materials.

In addition, transparency must be ensured to properly inform the audience. Photographs, audio and video materials, and other content created with the help of artificial intelligence that could mislead the audience must be appropriately labeled. The public must also be informed about their origin," M. Alasgarli added.
