Electricity supply has been restored in Tbilisi, and a phased restoration is underway across Georgia, according to the Georgian State Electrosystem.
"Due to systemic failures that occurred in Georgia on July 24-25, certain works were carried out at the Inguri HPP. In particular, to study the relevant equipment of the station, it was necessary to run the power system in an isolated mode at frequencies other than nominal, which caused a temporary power outage across the country," the energy company explained.
Necessary measures to restore power supply were taken immediately, and at this stage electricity supply has already been partially restored.
"Electricity supply will be restored across the country in the near future," the statement said.
The power outage occurred at approximately 20:15 Tbilisi time (19:15 Moscow time). In Tbilisi, the metro stopped, and there were disruptions in the operation of the Georgian Railway.
Earlier, Giorgi Pangani, a member of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, confirmed the connection between the accident and the HPP tests. According to him, the tests were planned and involved significant technical risks.
