US Vice President JD Vance said that talks with Iranian officials at the Swiss mountain resort of Bürgenstock laid a good foundation for a final peace agreement, although Iran denied that it had begun discussing its nuclear program.
They also agreed on a mechanism to cease hostilities in Lebanon, and opened a communication line to ensure safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz to avoid conflicts in this strategically important waterway, Reuters reports.
As part of the first of several steps under the agreement to provide economic assistance to Iran, the US Treasury Department announced the lifting of sanctions until August 21, allowing Tehran to sell oil and related goods and receive payment for them.
