The United States and Canada will intensify negotiations on the tariff issue in the coming weeks, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said after a phone call with US President Donald Trump.
"Earlier this morning, I spoke with President Trump. We agreed to intensify negotiations in the coming weeks, and my team and I look forward to it," Carney was quoted as saying by CBC.
Carney noted that the work would begin immediately but did not elaborate on how Canadian authorities would respond to US tariffs.
On Monday, Trump signed a proclamation imposing additional 50% tariffs on a wide range of imports from Canada. The document described the move as a "response to discrimination against American products in Canada."
