The Washington summit played a special role in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and strengthening the political agreements reached with international support, said MP Rizvan Nabiyev.

According to him, this process also demonstrates the growing role of the South Caucasus in the international security agenda and the interest of leading global actors in ensuring sustainable peace in the region.

"Therefore, the Washington summit has special political and diplomatic significance. This date can be seen as the beginning of a new stage of the diplomatic process in the post-conflict period and as a landmark event in terms of strengthening the international legitimacy of Azerbaijan's peace policy," the MP said.

He stressed that the documents signed in Washington are not just political statements, but important framework documents designed to form the legal and institutional basis for the future normalization process.

Nabiyev noted that US President Donald Trump expressed support for the diplomatic efforts of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev by signing the Joint Declaration as a witness. According to the MP, the American leader's diplomatic efforts gave new impetus to initiatives aimed at normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

He pointed out that the mutual letters and messages of President Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump reflect the high level of bilateral relations and are an important indicator of political support for the peace process.

Nabiyev added that the elevation of relations between Azerbaijan and the United States to the level of strategic partnership and the signing of the corresponding Charter in Baku in February 2026 is based on the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding concluded on August 8, 2025, in Washington.

The MP also stated that achieving lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia will open new opportunities for the region.

"Peace will strengthen regional security, ensure the opening of communications, accelerate economic integration, and increase the inflow of foreign investment. The South Caucasus, having become a space of stable development, will also increase the efficiency of transport routes connecting Europe and Asia," he stressed.

Nabiyev called President Ilham Aliyev's peace diplomacy a strategic course aimed at transforming Azerbaijan's military victory into a long-term political and legal outcome.
