Technology company Meta has reported that its AI-powered chatbot was used to hack Instagram accounts.
As reported by FinFly, Instagram said the issue has now been resolved.
The account takeover was carried out as follows:
"The chatbot was asked to link a specific account to a new email address. Using a confirmation code sent by the AI to the new address, account passwords were updated. At the same time, VPNs were used to spoof locations to bypass Meta's security measures, and thus many accounts were hacked."
Among the accounts hacked in this way was the official Instagram page used by former US President Barack Obama during his presidency.
