The Asian Development Bank (ADB) can serve a vital function as a platform for multilateral cooperation amid current global challenges, according to South Korea's governor at the 59th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors.
"The challenges we face today cannot be overcome by the efforts of a single country, making it necessary to deepen interaction among all participants. In this context, the ADB can take on a central role as a platform for coordinating joint actions," said Yoon Chul-koo, South Korea's governor at the ADB.
The Korean representative outlined three key areas to ensure sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
"The first area is ensuring the stability of supply chains. Geopolitical tensions have revealed significant vulnerabilities in existing logistics systems. We support the ADB's focus on enhancing supply resilience and working with critical mineral resources, and Korea is ready to actively participate in these initiatives.
The second is environmental transformation. This is not only about environmental protection but also about strengthening energy security. We call on the ADB to scale up investments in green technologies across the entire region.
The third is transformation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), which is a key driver of innovation and productivity growth. It offers developing countries fundamentally new opportunities for economic breakthroughs," Yoon emphasized.
