The European Union is urging all EU member states to ensure full cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC), in particular by executing its arrest warrants. This was reminded by Anuar El-Anuni, spokesman for the European Commission, as reported by a correspondent of European Pravda from Brussels.

He was commenting, at the request of journalists, on the fact that Greece, Italy, and France provided their airspace to the plane of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, against whom an ICC arrest warrant has been issued.

"In 2023, we had Council conclusions, which I will recall here, where the Council calls on all states to ensure full cooperation with the Court, in particular by promptly executing outstanding arrest warrants," El-Anuni said.

He stressed that the EU "supports the ICC and the principles set out in the Rome Statute."

"As the EU, we respect the independence and impartiality of the Court. And we are firmly committed to international criminal justice and the fight against impunity," the European Commission spokesman emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that the plane of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, heading to Washington on July 27, crossed the airspace of three EU countries – Greece, Italy, and France.

As is known, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and several other senior Israeli officials in connection with possible war crimes during Israel's operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip following the events of October 2023.
