Azerbaijan's team performed successfully at the 10th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI 2026), held from July 24 to 30 in Kaunas, Lithuania, winning three bronze medals.
This year, 100 schoolchildren from 25 countries participated in the Olympiad. The bronze medalists were Tunjay Pashayev, a 9th-grade student at Baku Lyceum with a focus on physics, mathematics, and informatics; Mahmud Isaly, a 9th-grade student at Baku Lyceum with a focus on chemistry and biology; and Vagif Abdullayev, a 9th-grade student at Secondary School No. 3 in Goychay.
Azerbaijan has been participating in the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics since 2017. Over this period, the national team has won a total of 18 medals, including 4 silver and 14 bronze, confirming the high level of training of the country's young programmers.
Preparation of schoolchildren for international informatics Olympiads is carried out within the framework of a joint program of Azercell Telecom LLC, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Institute of Education. The initiative aims to develop algorithmic thinking and practical programming skills, prepare students for international intellectual competitions, and support and develop young talents in the field of information technology.
By consistently investing in educational initiatives, Azercell contributes to the development of digital competencies among youth, the formation of the country's human capital, and the upbringing of a new generation of specialists capable of successfully representing Azerbaijan on the international stage.
