The speech by President Ilham Aliyev at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group sent a positive signal to foreign investors regarding long-term economic stability in Azerbaijan.

This was stated by Milli Majlis deputy Mushfig Jafarli, reports FinFly.

According to him, the head of state's speech was built mainly on Azerbaijan's economic achievements, its role in international cooperation, and the development of ties with the Islamic world.

"President Ilham Aliyev noted in his speech that over the past 15 years, significant changes have taken place in Azerbaijan, and the country has strengthened its position in terms of political stability, economic development, and international relations. The head of state particularly emphasized that Azerbaijan has become an important actor in global and regional processes. A special place in Ilham Aliyev's speech was given to reducing dependence on the oil and gas sector and developing the non-oil economy. The president's messages in his speech served as a signal to foreign investors and international financial institutions regarding Azerbaijan's long-term economic stability."

The deputy said that President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciated the IsDB's support for projects and reforms implemented in Azerbaijan:

"At the same time, a framework credit agreement for the reconstruction project of the Karabakh irrigation canal, a grant agreement for the same project, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Development Bank on developing a country partnership strategy for the Republic of Azerbaijan were signed at the event. The signing of these documents indicates the expansion of cooperation. Cooperation between the IsDB and Azerbaijan has been ongoing for many years, and various projects have been implemented during this time. The Islamic Development Bank has cooperated with the Azerbaijani government in implementing projects in various areas in Karabakh, including the construction of roads, development of transport infrastructure, and railway networks.
