Representatives of the ruling coalition of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), and NEOS announced the measures.

The bill has been submitted for review and is expected to come into force next year.

Social media platforms will have a transition period until April 1, 2027. They must either remove features that promote addiction or restrict access for children. Violations will be punishable by fines of up to 6% of the company's total annual turnover.

Additionally, access to adult websites will only be possible after age verification. Verification can be carried out through the ID Austria system or a private provider, with websites only receiving information that the user is over 18.
