Freelancer and self-employed taxes in Azerbaijan in 2026

If you work for yourself — coding, design, consulting or selling services online — your income has to be handled legally. Here are the options.

Who counts as a freelancer

A freelancer earns income from their own services without being on a payroll. In Azerbaijan this is most often handled as an individual entrepreneur (fərdi sahibkar); some activities have simplified regimes.

Registering and getting on record

The first step is getting a VÖEN and registering. That gives official status and the right to invoice and work with companies. Registration is available online via DVX and my.gov.az.

How to find your rate

The rate depends on the regime and activity. Do not rely on old articles — figures change. Check the current rate in your taxes.gov.az account.

Reporting and deadlines

Once registered you file returns and pay tax and contributions on time. The annual return is generally due by 31 March. It is all done online via e-taxes.

Common mistakes

Working undeclared, missing deadlines, mixing personal and business inflows, relying on outdated rates. Set up the regime and a payment calendar once.
