Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) has organized the first multimodal shipment of mineral fertilizers from Ekibastuz to the UK via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor), the company reported.
The shipment uses both rail and sea transport. The route passes through Kazakhstan, then across the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. From the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi, the cargo is delivered by sea to the British port of Felixstowe.
"The new route has expanded the capabilities of domestic enterprises to supply products to the UK market. The use of TITR ensures competitive delivery times, diversification of transport routes, and increased resilience of international supply chains," the company noted.
Earlier, KTZ organized an export shipment of Kazakh products along the Ekibastuz–Miami route. Currently, the company provides cargo delivery services to the US, UK, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, and other countries.
The Middle Corridor is a multimodal trade route connecting Asia and Europe through a number of regional countries, serving as an alternative to the traditional Northern and Southern transport corridors. The route starts in China, passes through Central Asian countries, then crosses the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, before reaching Europe. It is a land-based transport route that avoids longer sea routes and links eastern Asia, including China, with European markets.
