Work is underway to strengthen the transit network in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
According to information from Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, this was stated by Nima Reksha, the official representative of the Roads and Urban Development Department of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.
"With the completion of work on current road projects, this province will become one of the country's main cargo and transit hubs, which will strengthen the province's position in the international transit network," he noted.
Reksha reported that construction work is underway on the Zahedan-Birjand highway between Sistan and Baluchestan and South Khorasan provinces. 211 kilometers of this highway are located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. To date, 175 kilometers of this road have been put into operation. Construction work is underway on the remaining 36 kilometers.
According to him, achieving comprehensive and sustainable development of Sistan and Baluchestan Province depends on the development of highways and communication routes with other provinces. A significant portion of the country's necessary goods and cargo is transported from Chabahar Port to other destinations in Iran.
The department representative added that this shapes the region's international transit. Facilitating trade, developing the highway network, and improving safety are of great importance.
It should be noted that the cost of constructing the 36-kilometer highway on the Zahedan-Birjand route is 14 trillion rials (approximately $9.29 million).
