Georgia and Azerbaijan have started the process of issuing and exchanging electronic permits for international road freight transport.
According to information, Georgian carriers engaged in international freight transport will now use electronic permits in Azerbaijan, as they do in Turkey. It is noted that a similar system has been in use for transport with Turkey since the beginning of July 2026.
According to Bakur Mikadze, Director of the Land Transport Agency under the ministry, the digital system simplifies administrative procedures, accelerates information exchange, and minimizes the volume of paper documentation.
He stated that electronic issuance and monitoring of permit documents significantly increase the speed of application processing and the overall efficiency of international transport operations.
Under agreements reached between Tbilisi and Baku, the sides have already exchanged one thousand electronic permits of each type in 2026. A full transition to a digital format of interaction is planned for 2027.
