The construction of the Anaklia Deep-Water Port (ADP) has entered a new phase: the first dredging vessel has entered the port's marine area. This was announced by Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia.
According to him, after the procedures required by law are completed, the dredging vessel Tristao Da Cunha will begin deepening the seabed to build the breakwater channel.
In the first phase, the vessel will primarily work in the breakwater area. In a few weeks, it will be joined by a second floating structure, which will handle deepening of the entrance channel and the port's internal waters.
The agency head noted that in recent years, cargo turnover at Georgian ports has grown significantly, and their existing capacities are almost fully exhausted. The commissioning of the Anaklia deep-water port will make a significant contribution to increasing cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor, which connects Central Asia, other Asian regions, and Europe.
As part of the project, the seabed will be deepened to 17.5 meters, and the next phase will involve the construction of a 1,380-meter breakwater. Work continues in accordance with the previously approved schedule.
